From Chalfont to stardom: Ryan Coleman moves to next round of NBC's 'The Voice'

Bucks County may have just produced the next great country singer.

Chalfont native Ryan Coleman dazzled judges Chance the Rapper, John Legend, Reba McEntire, Shay Mooney and Dan Smyers on Monday's broadcast of "The Voice."

"The Voice" is on Mondays at 8 p.m. and Tuesdays at 9 p.m. on NBC, and is available the next day on Peacock.

Coleman, who was described as a farmer on the show, impressed the judges with a country take on Bill Withers' 1971 multiplatinum hit, "Ain't No Sunshine."

"Welcome to 'The Voice,'" said Chance the Rapper.

Coleman posted his perfomance to his Facebook page:

"I absolutely loved your tone," Mooney told Coleman after his performance. "Your voice has an identity and that's what we've been listening for all day. Clearly, you're easy on the eyes, the ladies clearly loved it. I'm so excited to get to work with you, brother. I can't wait to find out more about who you are and bring out a little bit more of that identity of your voice. It's just phenomenal."

As Coleman prepares for the next stage of the competition, here's everything else to know about the homegrown musician.

Coleman has roots in Bucks County, Delaware Velley

According to Coleman's Facebook page, the 25-year-old studied at Penn State University from 2015-2020 and currently lives in Philadelphia.

Coleman's family, which operates Coleman Hay Farms on Walter Road in Chalfont, also posted a congratulatory message for Ryan on its Facebook page.

"Our family is so proud of Ryan Coleman," read the Coleman family's post. "We are all so excited for him."

'Dive Bar Broken Heart' is Ryan Coleman's latest single, has upcoming local shows

According to Coleman's biography on his official website, he always wanted to be a musician.

"Ryan Coleman is a born and bred farm kid from southeast Pennsylvania who just wants to share his music with the world. Growing up he learned the meaning of a hard work ethic and good country music," read a portion of Coleman's biography. "Since the age of 8, Ryan has been playing guitar and writing songs trying to share his life expereinces that can help others relate.

"Now his third single, 'Dive Bar Broken Heart,' has hit the charts as he has some big things coming very soon."

Coleman has released two other singles, which are available on Apple Music and Spotify.

Coleman released "That's What I Do," in 2022, and "Take it From Me" in 2023.

And there are opportunities to catch Coleman's live performances in the coming months.

On Sat., March 30, Coleman will perform at Gypsy Blu, 34 E Butler Ave., Ambler. On Fri., Aug. 16 and Sun., Aug. 18, Coleman will perform at the Middletown Grange Fair.

More about this season of 'The Voice'

The U.S. version of the reality singing competition has been on air since 2011 and has launched the careers of several notable artists including Morgan Wallen and Melanie Martinez. It has featured a host of celebrity judges over its 25 season run, from Christina Aguilera and Blake Shelton to Usher and Miley Cyrus.

The winner of "The Voice," who is selected by votes from viewers, will receive $100,000 and a record deal with Universal Music Group.

The show's format is split up into five stages of competition: Blind Auditions, Battle Rounds, Knockouts, Playoffs and Live Performance Shows.

During blind auditions, the coaches are facing away from potential contestants and can only hear their voice. If they like the singer, they can press a button to rotate their chair and claim them for their team.
