Chamber Music Columbus unveils exciting lineup for 77th season
One of the city's longest running arts organizations, Chamber Music Columbus has brought "the music of friends" to the community for more than 75 years.
Described thusly because of its intimate nature, chamber music is a form of classical music composed for a small ensemble of string instruments, with each musician playing a unique part. Chamber Music Columbus will bring that intimacy to the stage during its 77th season at the Southern Theatre, 21 E. Main St.
The 2024-25 season will launch at 3 p.m. on Sept. 1 with “VIVO Fairy Tales,” for which Chamber Music Columbus partnered with VIVO Music Festival for an evening of works by Schumann, Mozart and Brahms. The concert also will feature the Ohio premiere of Marcos Balter’s Horn Trio.
Other performances lined up for the season are:
Alexander Malofeev, 22-year-old piano virtuoso, playing pieces by Schubert, Brahms, Rachmaninoff and others, 7 p.m. Oct. 19
Catalyst Quartet and violist Jordan Bak, 4 p.m. Jan. 18
Mnozil Brass, known for their playing combined with quirky, comedic sketch-like elements and often called “The Monty Python of the musical world,” 4 p.m. March 8
Ariel Quartet will perform a special program, “Ancestral Voices,” including Matan Porat’s Four Ladino Songs, Schubert’s String Quartet No. 14 “Death and the Maiden” and a world premiere by local composer Dr. Ching-chu Hu, 7 p.m. May 3.
Patrons are encouraged to arrive at least 30 minutes before showtime. Late arrivals after the concert begins will not be seated until the first appropriate pause in the program.

Ticket prices for adults range from $20-$60, plus applicable fees. Tickets for students with valid ID and youth 13-18 are $15. Children 12 and younger are admitted free with a paid adult.
