Charlamagne Tha God Calls Out Plies’ Comments Regarding VP Kamala Harris
Charlamagne Tha God is clapping back at Plies for stating that Vice President Kamala Harris doesn’t owe anyone an explanation. On Sunday (Aug. 25), Plies took to X/Twitter where he went on a mini-rant about Harris and her unwillingness to do too many interviews. The Florida rapper voiced his frustration with Black men who are quick to shoot her down and ask things of her that they wouldn’t ask of former President Donald Trump or any other white man.
“Stop asking a mothaf**king Black woman to explain theyself to you, if y’all ain’t willing to ask a mothaf**king white man to explain hisself,” Plies asserted. “Y’all cool with the white man not explaining himself to you… Y’all just want something to mothaf**king say. Now, if she was President and didn’t do something then that’s a whole different ball game.”
Charlamagne responded to Plies’ comments on Monday (Aug. 26) during a new episode of The Breakfast Club. The talking head stated that it was “absolutely” wrong for Plies or anybody to say or imply that Black people should “settle” for their candidate.
“I don’t understand Plies or any Black person for that matter, telling Black people to ‘just settle.’ ‘Just accept whatever the candidate is giving you. Don’t ask questions, just vote. They don’t have to explain anything to us.’ No,” Charlamagne expressed.
Dear Mr/Mrs “ @kamalaharris Need To Explain Herself To Me”. An To Mr/Mrs “Why She Ain’t Do It While She’s Been In The White House The Last 3 1/2 Years!!!”….. #Plies ?? pic.twitter.com/rYlpqASSVD

“Plies is absolutely, positively wrong,” Charlamagne continued. “If people are asking questions, that’s great… I don’t even know why Plies is making this a Black woman vs. Black men thing. This isn’t about Black men and Black women. It’s about elected officials and potential voters.”
The South Carolina native explained the point of campaigning during an election year and why it is paramount for candidates to take interviews. Charlamagne doubled down on his assertion that Kamala Harris definitely needs to explain herself to the American people if she wants Black folks to vote for her.
“The whole point of the campaign season is for candidates to go out there and explain to the American people why they should be the one in charge of this country. Votes are earned, not given. And they are earned by you going out there and explaining yourself.”
Kamala Harris hasn’t given that many interviews since she accepted the political baton pass from President Joe Biden in July. Since then she has turned down an appearance at the NABJ and opted to interview at the event virtually. However, the National Association of Black Journalists turned down her alternative. On the other hand, Donald Trump appeared at the convention and took questions from the panel.
After the Democratic National Convention, Charlamagne defended her decision to avoid interviews. He looked at it as a great strategy and hypothesized that she would do more interviews, possibly after her upcoming debate with Trump on Tuesday (Sept. 10), per Fox News.
“I think what she’s been doing has worked because you know what she’s been doing is hitting the ground,” he said. “She’ll get to interviews after the DNC. But, you know, this week I think she got – she’s got bigger fish to fry, like going out there tomorrow and knocking a home run speech out the park.”
