While Kanye West connects with his roots — and with the controversial Ugandan president — in Africa, a talk he was scheduled to take part in about mental illness this week in New York City has been canceled.

Charlamagne Tha God, co-host of The Breakfast Club radio show and author of the upcoming book Shook One: Anxiety Playing Tricks on Me, announced that the New York Times talk he was to participate in with the rapper on Wednesday is not happening. He announced via social media that having “that conversation” with West right now “would not be productive and a total distraction from the point of the convo which is to eradicate the stigma of mental health especially in the black community.” (A rep for the New York Times has not yet responded to Yahoo’s request for comment.)

The news comes just days after West’s unhinged display with President Trump at the White House. He jumped from topic to topic — how his MAGA hat made him feel like a superhero, how time doesn’t exist, how Apple needs to make a better plane for Trump to travel in. West, who went public with a bipolar disorder diagnosis in June, also claimed that that he was misdiagnosed. He told Trump about a recent appointment with a well-regarded neuropsychologist who determined that he doesn’t have the disorder after all. “He said that I actually wasn’t bipolar; I had sleep deprivation, which could cause dementia 10 to 20 years from now, where I wouldn’t even remember my son’s name,” West said.

After West’s trip to the White House, Charlamagne said West was being “misused” by Trump and thought the men were actually using each other.

West’s White House visit continues to draw criticism from everyone outside the Fox News crowd. Dave Chapelle said West “shouldn’t say all that s***.” T.I. said West put his “soul on auction.” And today a new video from Fiona Apple, who was friendly enough with West to interview him back in 2005, delivered a long, thoughtful message to him, via video, in which she says Trump is just using him.

So where is West now? Africa. When he announced that his album had been delayed, he said he wanted to spend time in Africa to work on his music — and he’s there now with his family. Even this cultural journey isn’t drama-free. He and his wife, Kim Kardashian, paid a visit to the president of Uganda, Yoweri Museveni, and there were photo ops and Yeezy plugs. (He gave Museveni a pair of white sneakers.) According to TMZ, West revealed big plans for Uganda during the visit, including “plans to turn part of Uganda into Jurassic Park.” (You can’t make this stuff up.)

However, Museveni is a controversial figure for many. In power since 1986, he abolished term limits so that he could potentially be president for life. He also signed into a law a bill that toughened penalties against gay people and made some homosexual acts punishable by life in prison. Museveni is also a big fan of the current U.S. president. “America has got one of the best presidents ever,”he said. “Mr. Trump. I love Trump.”

Sounds just like West.
