Charlie Puth has a Bruce Springsteen 'Bruuuce' moment at PNC Bank Arts Center in Holmdel

Charlie Puth has been “Bruuuced.”

It happened at the hitmaker’s concert Saturday, June 3 at the PNC Bank Arts Center in Holmdel when Puth, a Rumson native, started playing “Jersey Girl.” The song is a Tom Waits original but closely associated with Springsteen, who has performed it in concert.

Some fans recognized the opening chords and yelled “Bruuuce.” Springsteen was not at the show, but Puth is a fan and has performed his material in the past.

His walk-on music on Saturday, just before he took the stage, was Springsteen's “Glory Days.” Puth ruled the stage kind of like a Boss, delivering his R&B infused pop hits for an hour and half in the “Charlie Live Experience” tour show to approximately 8,000 screaming and standing fans.

Puth provided details on the writing of his songs on Saturday.

“The snare and in this key of D major it all came together,” said Puth of his hit, “Left and Right,” which came to him while he was sleeping.

Puth had a four member band and his synthesizer keyboards and a stand-up piano were at the forefront of the stage. He also played a strapped on keytar during the show, including on the rock jam for “How Long.”

He climbed the riser in the middle of the stage and looked like a rock star up there, well, because Puth is a rock star.

Puth closed the show with his smash “See You Again,” first solo and then joined in by his band. After the performance he blew kisses and held his hand over his heart as the crowd cheered.

The show was the season opener of the PNC Bank Arts Center, and Puth's debut at the venue, too.
