Charlize Theron confirms daughter Jackson is transgender: 'I'm raising two beautiful, proud, black African girls'
Charlize Theron is raising two “beautiful, proud” daughters.
While promoting Long Shot on Friday’s Graham Norton Show, the actress reportedly confirmed that her 7-year-old Jackson is transgender. The child is the elder of Theron’s two adopted children and had been introduced to the world as a boy.
“I'm raising two beautiful, proud, black African girls, and I want them to find themselves and not necessarily push my ancestry on them,” the South African actress said on the British show, before adding, “but I have taught them two very sweet Afrikaans songs about politeness.”
This follows comments Theron allegedly made to a Daily Mail reporter who inquired about the child’s gender.
“Yes, I thought she was a boy, too,” Theron reportedly told the tabloid last week. “Until she looked at me when she was 3-years-old and said: 'I am not a boy!’ So there you go! I have two beautiful daughters who, just like any parent, I want to protect and I want to see thrive.”
She continued, “They were born who they are and exactly where in the world both of them get to find themselves as they grow up, and who they want to be, is not for me to decide. My job as a parent is to celebrate them and to love them and to make sure that they have everything they need in order to be what they want to be. And I will do everything in my power for my kids to have that right and to be protected within that.'
A rep for Theron wouldn’t confirm that Theron had made the comments to the tabloid.
Theron is raising her brood — also including August, 3, as a single mom, saying earlier this month that she is “shockingly single” after long-term relationships with partners including Sean Penn and Stuart Townsend. However, she later clarified that she isn’t looking for love right now.
