'I want it to be perfect': Star chef opens new taco shop in Phoenix. Everything to know
Acclaimed chef Rene Andrade has opened a new restaurant. The Bacanora co-owner's highly anticipated taco shop Huarachis officially opened to the public in downtown Phoenix on Dec. 12 in the former Rodiberto's Mexican Food space.
The 2023 James Beard "Best Chef Southwest" semifinalist told The Arizona Republic that since Huarachis is his first solo venture — he owns Bacanora with Armando Hernandez and Nadia Holguin of Tacos Chiwas and Cocina Chiwas — he did not want to rush it and kept details about it mostly quiet until opening.
Bacanora was a 2022 James Beard finalist for "Best New Restaurant" and has been a massive success since opening, winning multiple accolades and garnering national attention from the New York Times and Esquire. Andrade bills the fare there as Sonoran comfort food. The restaurant's refined offerings landed it on many best-of lists and earned it a rare five-star review from The Republic.
As a result, Andrade said he feels a lot of pressure with Huarachis. "I want it to be perfect," he said.
