Chuy Bravo, Star Of Chelsea Handler's 'Chelsea Lately,' Dead At 63
An Unexpected Passing
Chuy Bravo, born Jesus Melgoza, died on Sunday morning while visiting his family in Mexico City. He was the longtime sidekick of comedian Chelsea Handler on her show Chelsea Lately.
According to reports, Bravo was hospitalized with a "terrible stomach ache" and his cause of death is currently unknown. He was 63.
Bravo had filed for bankruptcy in 2018 on the basis that he had "no income," but seemed to be doing better in 2019, saying that he "can't complain."
Handler's Emotional Tribute
Handler posted a heartfelt tribute to her costar on Instagram, clearly saddened by his passing.
"I loved this nugget in a big way, and I took great pleasure in how many people loved him as much as I did and do. @chuybravo gave us so much laughter and I’ll never forget the sound of his laughter coming from his office into mine. Or his “business calls” with his “business manager,” or his shoe rack with all his children-sized shoes. I’ll never forget him coming to Christmas with my family one year in the Florida keys, and when my niece who was 5 or 6 at the time — saw him, she ran in the other direction saying she was scared. My sister and I were mortified and were apologizing to Chuy, who told us “it’s ok, lots of little kids get scared when they see big kids coming their way.” I love you, Chuy!"
He Only Had Kind Things To Say About Her
Bravo was recently asked by Radar Online about his friendship with Handler, while he admitted that he had not seen her since Chelsea Lately went off the air in 2014, there was still a lot of love there.
"She is very busy. We have both been busy trying to do our thing that we haven’t seen each other since. But we text, we call each other. She called me last week actually before my birthday. I love her. She is my dearest, I would definitely accept a job if she offered it to me.
When the show ended, we already knew what was going to happen by then. But it’s okay. Of course I was sad, because the whole crew, we are like a family."
She Just Wished Him A Happy Birthday
Handler had just recently wished Bravo a happy birthday on Instagram, praising him for their years of working together.
"Happy birthday to my OG Nugget @chuybravo. I love this picture because — not only does it look like Chuy just launched out of my peekachu, I look like a member of ZZ Top. Happy birthday Chuy, and thank you for 8 years of heavy petting."
Rest In Peace, Chuy. You will surely be missed by many.
