Cher reveals she was madly in love with this ‘80s heartthrob before he dumped her — and they had ‘fabulous sex’
If only she could turn back time.
Cher has revealed that actor Val Kilmer was the only celebrity who has ever broken up with her.
During an appearance on SiriusXM’s “The Howard Stern Show” this week, the legendary singer opened up about her past romances.
At one point, Stern asked the “Strong Enough” hitmaker, 78, whether the men in her life “expect fabulous sex” from her given her icon status, to which she replied, “Yes, and they get it.”
“You could tell by the reaction,” she added, to which Stern asked, “Who would ever leave you?”
“Few men, few men,” the “Believe” singer said. “Look, I was madly in love with Val Kilmer and he left.”
Cher, whose real name is Cherilyn Sarkisian, dated the “Top Secret” actor from 1982 to 1984.
Kilmer, now 64, was 13 years Cher’s junior — which was a big topic of discussion at the time.
When asked why Kilmer called it quits on their relationship, the “If I Could Turn Back Time” hitmaker said “he was really young.”
“Because sometimes you’re only meant to stay with someone so long,” she told Stern.
It’s not the first time Cher has opened up about her strong feelings for Kilmer, revealing in 2021 that the exes met at her birthday party in the 1980s.
“I met him at a birthday party my friend was having for me. She said, ‘I invited this guy and I think either you or my friend who’s an editor will like him,'” she said at the time.
“We became friends because we laughed at the same things constantly. He would sleep over and it was just a friendship [at first]. That took a long time. Well, I guess not really a long time.”
The singer said the pair’s age gap “was a bigger deal back then.”
Elsewhere, Cher said she reached out to Kilmer after watching his 2021 documentary, “Val.”
“I said, ‘Valus Maximus, I’m sorry if I did anything to piss you off or hurt your feelings. I love you and your documentary was all things … I love the things that pissed me off, the things that made me hysterical, amazed, hurt, astonished, etc. You are brave and beyond brilliant. Ethel,'” she said, referring to their nicknames for each other.
“He’s a true artist and Renaissance man. He was sick and it didn’t stop him. He created an extension of his art and his life.”
“Look what he created and even the things he let you see that nobody would let you see. Even the worst things, he wanted to be in the documentary because he wanted to show you who he was,” she added.
Cher dated another “Top Gun” actor, too — Tom Cruise. The pair met in 1985 when he was 23 and she 38 at Madonna and Sean Penn’s wedding.
The singer has been previously married — twice — herself. First to Sonny Bono from 1964 to 1969 and later to Gregg Allman from 1975 to 1979. She shared son Chaz, 55, with Bono, who died in 1998 at age 62, and son Elijah, 48, with Allman, who died in 2017 at age 69.
She’s currently dating music executive and producer Alexander “AE” Edwards, 38.
