Cher, The Memoir: Part One will chronicle her early life as Cherilyn Sarkisian, including her battle with dyslexia as a child and her dream of superstardom. The book will follow her rise, meeting and marrying Sonny Bono, and forming the husband-and-wife Sixties duo Sonny & Cher.
The memoir will be published via Dey Street Books; Part Two is slated to arrive next year.
“With her trademark honesty and humor, Cher: The Memoir traces how this diamond in the
rough succeeded with no plan and little confidence to become the trailblazing superstar the
world has been unable to ignore for more than half a century,” reads the announcement.
Cher will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on October 19 at the Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse in Cleveland, Ohio. Her class includes Ozzy Osbourne, A Tribe Called Quest, Mary J. Blige, Dave Matthews Band, Foreigner, Peter Frampton, and Kool & The Gang. The announcement arrived months after Cher told Kelly Clarkson, “I wouldn’t be in it now if they gave me a million dollars. I’m never going to change my mind. They can just go you-know-what themselves.”
Earlier this week, Cher spoke publicly on President Biden’s decision not to run for reelection. “In my heart I’m tortured, because I don’t believe the Democrats can win the Presidency with ‘Pres Biden’ ‘Joe’ whom I’ve loved since we met in 2008,” she said. “I campaigned for him I believe it’s time to pass the baton, time for dems to think ‘way’ outside the box. Maybe even a split ticket.”
