Cherry Pie, Warrant singer Jani Lane dead at 47
Jani Lane, former lead singer of the hair metal band Warrant, was found dead in a Los Angeles hotel Thursday night, the Los Angeles Times has confirmed. He was 47. The cause of death is unknown and the case has been turned over to the L.A. county coroner’s office.
The blond-maned, leather-clad Lane embodied the glammed-out pop-metal genre of the late ’80s and early ’90s. As frontman of Warrant, he wrote the band’s hits “Heaven,” “Down Boys,” and “Cherry Pie.” He left the band in 1992, but rejoined (and quit again) several times since.
Lane was also on an edition of Celebrity Fit Club in 2005 and had a few small acting roles as well.
In 2009, he was arrested for allegedly crashing into a parked car and put on probation after pleading no contest to a DUI charge. He pleaded no contest to a similar charge again in 2010 and served 120 days in jail.
