‘The Chi’ Season 6 Finale, Explained: The 2 Major Characters Who Died And The Person Who Left Town
The Chi‘s Season 6 finale had a lot of surprises, including surprising deaths.
The sixth season’s finale had not one, but two shocking deaths, plus a character leaving the series.
How died in ‘The Chi’ Season 6 finale?
Rob (Iman Shumpert) and Douda (Curtiss Cook) both had a visit from the Grim Reaper. Douda was killed in a power-grab for the streets by his former right-hand Nuck (Cortez Smith), making Nuck the new leader of the criminal underworld. When Rob didn’t proverbally kiss the ring, Nuck killed him too, leaving him on the doorstep of Douda’s former rival Alicia (Lynn Whitfield).
Which character moved away?
Meanwhile, Nina (Tyla Abercrumbie) moved away from Chicago with her girlfriend LaPorsha (Da Brat). While they weren’t among the episode’s casualties, it’s still a sad thing to see Nina and LaPorsha leave, since Abercrumbie has been with the season since it first began in 2018.
The Chi star Luke James told Blavity’s Shadow and Act in May how the Lena Waithe and the production team behind The Chi give the actors the space to feel out the characters’ tough emotional moments, such as like what characters went through emotionally during the finale.
“I love that the writers and Lena [Waithe], they’re just so brilliant in tailoring it for us to be able to take our time and express ourselves. I’m grateful to Showtime and Paramount for allowing us to have more episodes where we get to flesh these things out in a very cool, grounded way.”
Is ‘The Chi’ renewed for Season 7?
More drama is on the way; The Chi has been renewed for a seventh season.
“Lena Waithe is a generational storyteller, whose authentic and unflinching narratives in The Chi resonate deeply, offering a powerful lens into both the complexities of life in Chicago as well as the Black experience in America,” said Nina L. Diaz, President of Content and Chief Creative Officer, Showtime/MTV Entertainment Studios and Paramount Media Networks, in a prior statement. “On the heels of a record-breaking season and ahead of this week’s return, we’re excited to provide fans with the promise of more – ensuring that they can continue to enjoy the raw, emotional stories and unforgettable characters that have made this seminal series a resounding success for Showtime.”
