The character makes his debut in the Sept. 25 premiere and brings about a “new dynamic for the [Intelligence] unit,” showrunner Gwen Sigan tells TV Insider.
“I think he sees a lot of himself in Voight and identifies quite a bit with Voight and Voight’s philosophy as a police officer, and they have a really interesting relationship that will evolve as the season goes on,” Sigan adds.
Hatosy isn’t the only new face joining P.D. next season: As TVLine exclusively reported, Toya Turner (New Amsterdam, Warrior Nun) has come on board in the series-regular role of Kiana Cook, a patrol officer who loves the adrenaline of the job and its stakes and doesn’t blink in the face of chaos. The new addition comes following Tracy Spiridakos’ departure as Det. Hailey Upton in the Season 11 finale after seven full seasons with the show.
Hatosy is known for playing Detective Sammy Bryant on the cop drama Southland and Andrew ‘Pope’ Cody on Animal Kingdom. The actor also has recurring roles on Fox’s fall series Rescue: HI-Surf and Max’s forthcoming medical drama The Pitt, both of which reunite him with Animal Kingdom and Southland executive producer John Wells.
The new season of NBC’s Chicago P.D. begins Wednesday, Sept. 25 at 10/9c, following Chicago Med Season 10 (at 8 pm) and Chicago Fire Season 13 (at 9 pm).
