Chicago P.D. is getting a new cast member – and it looks like she’ll fit right in. Warrior Nun’s Toya Turner is set to join the long-running Dick Wolf procedural as Kiana Cook, who will be joining Intelligence after Hailey Upton’s departure. But who is Kiana Cook and what can we expect from her in Season 12?

Who is Chicago PD’s Kiana Kook?

The newest member of Intelligence, Kiana Kook, was described to TVLine by showrunner Gwen Sigan as “very cool,” “very different” but also as a “very action-oriented cop.” It’s hard to tell what that means yet, particularly in a unit where action-oriented could be interpreted in a good way or in a bad way, depending on where Voight stands, but Kook certainly seems like she will shake up the team dynamics in Chicago P.D. Season 12.

And maybe, part of that will be some romance? On top of the above descriptions, showrunner Gwen Sigan also told TVLine that fans should not expect Kook to jump into a romance with the member of the Intelligence unit who has been single for the longest, Kevin Atwater. At least “not off the bat.” But she didn’t rule out the possibility of romance for Atwater in the upcoming season, either.

“Atwater might get a little romance this season,” the EP told TVLine, with “somebody who can see him and can understand who he is.” Whether that is Kook or someone else remains to be seen, but Atwater has had very little in the way of romance since girlfriend Celeste Nichols in Chicago P.D. Season 9. Before that, there was a possibility with the character of Vanessa Rojas, but that ended with Lisseth Chavez leaving the show.

So, all in all, it’s about time Kevin Atwater gets a good romantic storyline. And with Adam Ruzek and Kim Burgess about as solid as they can be going into Season 12, if someone is going to get some romantic drama, it stands to reason it would be Kevin Atwater.

Kiana Kook had previously been described as “a patrol officer who loves the adrenaline of the job and its stakes and doesn’t blink in the face of chaos.” Turner, who is better known for Warrior Nun, had previously guest-starred on the two other One Chicago properties, Chicago Med and Chicago Fire.
