There’s a wedding on the horizon on Chicago P.D., and LaRoyce Hawkins has a special request for the long-awaited affair: When Burgess and Ruzek finally tie the knot, Hawkins wants his character, Atwater, to be more than just the Best Man in his friends/colleagues’ ceremony.

The actor recently shared with TVLine that he got ordained over the Internet and married two of his real-life best friends, and he would like art to imitate life.

“This might be my next conversation with [showrunner] Gwen Sigan,” Hawkins says. “I can marry my friends and family. It’s my second wedding so far as [an officiant]. I imagine Atwater, as the honorary third wheel of this relationship [between Burgess and Ruzek] for so long, would be blessed with that opportunity. It would be an honor for me to be more than a Best Man, but for me to marry [them].”

“I’m going to take it to her because it just happened in real life, and I couldn’t help but think about Burgess and Ruz as I was marrying my uncle,” Hawkins continues. “Because I’m like the real third wheel in their life, and I got so much love and respect for their relationship that I was honored to do it, and I think that would be cool. I just think that would be a cool dynamic, but we’ll see if we get [to do it].”

And if Atwater doesn’t get to officiate the nuptials, “at the very least,” he has to be Ruzek’s Best Man, Hawkins adds.

In the meantime, Atwater has his own potential romance with Val (Power Book III: Raising Kanan‘s Natalee Linez), a forensic psychologist who was introduced in this week’s episode. She invited the officer to turn off his brain and have some fun with her, which he did.

“We’re just planting the seeds right here,” Hawkins told TVLine of the possible relationship. “It’s hard to say where exactly we’re going from here. I’m looking forward to the next piece of the arc. But what I can imagine is that we walk away from this episode knowing that Atwater now is giving himself grace to let go of certain things so that he can hold on to other things in a more healthy way.”

Chicago P.D. fans, would you like to see Atwater marry Burgess and Ruzek?
