Chiefs Coach Andy Reid Shares Bold New View on Travis Kelce’s Relationship With Taylor Swift
Andy Reid has a fresh bold take on one of his star player's roles outside of aiding the team toward a Super Bowl "3peat" this year.
The Kansas City Chiefs head coach sat down to chat on the very first episode of The Athletic's new Scoop City podcast on Tuesday, July 16, where he fielded a new set of questions about Travis Kelce's relationship with Taylor Swift and the attention its brought to the twice-consecutive Super Bowl-winning team—marking the first time the 66-year-old team leader has ever managed a player with "this much attention around the world."
Despite everyone having "all their eyes on [his] star player," Reid knows that Kelce "can handle it." The coach even suspects that the tight end "probably loves it to a point," pointing out that he was already experiencing a decent level of fame thanks to New Heights, the podcast he cohosts with his brother, Jason Kelce.
"That podcast of theirs is ridiculous, so he's gotten a lot of notoriety for that," Reid explained.
Beyond that, "He's an outgoing guy," he continued. "I mean, he comes into a room, he's going to light the room up. Everybody's his best friend." That is "until you prove him wrong," at least.
Still, Reid likens the newfound attention to "a great escape" for both of them.
"I mean, [Taylor] comes to the game, she can kind of escape having to be the show," he elaborated. "And Travis can do that; when he goes to her concerts, she's the star."
He jokingly added that he can even take on a new role when supporting his superstar girlfriend, serving as her "waterboy"—and may we just say, he performs the role beautifully.
