Chinese sports comedy “Never Say Die” pulled ahead of the pack in its second week of release. But chart places stayed largely the same as the previous weekend, reflecting the weeklong national holiday and a lack of new releases.

Never Say Die” earned a strong $64.4 million in its second weekend, according to data from Ent Group. That compares with $46.6 million in its opening two-day session a week earlier. After nine days on release it has earned a cumulative $220 million.

“Chasing the Dragon” moved up to second place, overtaking “The Foreigner.” A martial-arts action drama, “Chasing” fought its way to $17.1 million, up from $14 million in its two-day first weekend. That helped it to a cumulative $59.8 million after nine days.

Jackie Chan- and Pierce Brosnan-starring “The Foreigner” took $15.3 million over the weekend. That compared with $22.1 million in its previous weekend. Its cumulative stands at $66.9 million after nine days.

Music comedy “City of Rock” played on, with $12.2 million good enough for fourth place. After 10 days on release it has $38.7 million. Air force action movie “Sky Hunter” managed $10.6 million for fifth place. Over 10 days it has accumulated $37.8 million.

The gap between the top five titles and all others on release was large. Sixth placed film “Dragon Force” earned $1.48 million, seventh-placed “Contratiempo” played for $1.47 million and “Alex: The Lonely Planet” took $1.46 million.

“War for The Planet of the Apes,” out for nearly a month in China, took $1 million in ninth spot. After 24 days it has amassed $111 million. Record breaker “Wolf Warriors II” stayed in the top 10 with $580,000, for a 74-day cumulative of $853 million.
