Hong Wan Ling, popularly known by her pen name Jiu Lu Fei Xiang, is a celebrated Chinese author and screenwriter. She has established her position as one of the finest novelists in China. Her novels have been made into some of the most legendary Chinese dramas of all time.

From The Legend of Shen Li to Love Between Fairy and Devil, here’s a list of dramas inspired by Fei Xiang’s novels:

The Legend of Shen Li (2024)

This xianxia drama, featuring popular actors Zhao Liying and Lin Gengxin in the leading roles, is an adaptation of Jiu Lu Fei Xiang’s novel Yu Feng Xing. As seen in the official trailer, it tells the love story of Xing Zhi (Lin Geng Xin), the last surviving deity, and Shen Li (Zhen Li Yang), a powerful female demon lord.

Shen Li falls into the mortal world in her phoenix state after being attacked while escaping a forceful marriage. A greedy vendor mistakes her for a chicken and keeps her in a cage, tormenting her. Soon, in her captive state, she catches the eye of Xing Zhi. He heals her, and soon, they fall in love.

The Legend of Shen Li is available to stream on Tencent Video, WeTV, KUKAN, MGTV, and Viki.

Love Between Fairy and Devil (2022)

It is an adaptation of Jiu Lu Fei Xiang’s Cang Lan Jue and it features Esther Yu and Dylan Wang in lead roles. After Dongfang Qing (Dylan Wang), the Moon Supreme becomes an emotionless monster, he goes on a rampage and destroys everything.

He even kills his father and puts several realms, including the mortal and fairy realms, in danger. Fearing his destructiveness, the gods seal his soul. But after thousands of years, the seal is broken, and he comes out. Dongfang falls in love with a low-ranking fairy, Orchid (Esther Yu).

The Legends (2019)

It has been adapted from Jiu Lu Fei Xiang’s web novel Zhao Yao. Lu Zhao Yao (Bai Lu) dies while trying to inherit a magical sword. She mistakes Li Chen Lan (Xu Kai), her best ally, to be one of the conspirators as he is the demon king’s son. Years later, when Li Chen Lan becomes the Wanlu sect’s leader, Zhao Yao, now a vengeful spirit in the body of Qin Zhi Lan (Xiao Yan), decides to get her revenge. She is a disciple of the immortal sect. But her plan fails when Zhi Yan starts to fall for Chen Lan.

The Blue Whisper (2022)

This Ren Jialun and Dilraba Dilmurat starrer is an adaptation of Jiu Lu Fei Xiang’s The Tale of Merman. It tells the love story between Ji Yun He (Dilraba Dilmurat), the spiritual master of the valley of flowers, and Chengyi (Ren Jialun), a merman.

The cruel princess brings the merman to the valley and demands Yun He to make him speak and cut his tail. As she grows close to him, she is in a dilemma between setting him free and choosing to secure her own fate.

Back from the Brink (2023)

This xianxia drama features Zhou Ye as Yan Hui, who vows to protect Tian Yao (Neo Hou), an ancient dragon. He was reborn after being betrayed He endured fatal wounds. His lover pulled apart his bones and could only escape by the sheer grace of luck. Yan Hui possesses the magical heart protection scale that could revive Tian Yao’s condition. While treating him, Yan Hui falls in love with him. She also embarks on a journey to find out about her true origin.
