Chingy Backs Out Of LGBTQ MAGA Concert Amid Social Media Backlash
Chingy has backed out of a live performance at a concert hosted by pro-LGBTQ Republican Party members amid a wave of criticism regarding the booking.
On Sunday (Sept. 22), the rap star released a statement on social media announcing his decision to pull out of the gig, citing the controversy surrounding his planned appearance. “YOU KNO WHAT JUS CAUSE I DONT WANT TO BE IN THE MIDDLE OF THIS MESS. I HAVE DECLINED PERFORMING,” Chingy wrote in a post on Instagram.
In addition, the “Right Thurr” artist insisted that he holds no political affiliation with Trump or any other candidate. “AND NO IM NOT A TRUMP SUPPORTER NOR SUPPORTER OF ANYONE ELSE BUT CHINGY,” he wrote, adding, “THURR YOU HAVE IT.”
On Friday (Sept. 20), news of Chingy performing at the Log Cabin Republicans’, an organization “representing gay conservatives and allies,” upcoming Red White & Rock concert surfaced on social media. This lead detractors of presidential candidate Donald Trump to blast the hitmaker for his seeming endorsement of the polarizing politician.
Initially, Chingy defended his decision to accept the booking, expressing his disinterest in political quarrels while brushing off the scrutiny aimed in his direction.
“I’m a say this one time,” he wrote as part of a lengthy response to his critics. “My job is to perform and get paid to perform, not caurr [sic] about politics. Now y’all find [something] else to do with yurr [sic] time.”
In response to speculation that he chose to perform at the event due to a lack of finances, Chingy shot back at those claims, pointing to a recent real estate purchase as proof of his financial security. “You can’t be down bad when you just bought a 500k house,” the spitter retorted.
“Those people don’t hate me because they love my music. Music isn’t racist and that’s how I play it… I’m a performers w[h]ether theses [sic] people political homosexual or whatever they all love music… [M]y job as an artist is to perform and make timeless music.”
The Log Cabin Republicans’ Red White & Rock concert is set to take place Sept. 29 in Nashville, TN, and is slated to include performances by Jessica Sutta of the Pussycat Dolls and country artist Jesse Keith Whitley, as well as appearances by Donald Trump Jr. and Kimberly Guilfoyle.
