Chris Hemsworth replaces Will Smith in first 'Men in Black: International' trailer
So now we know what Valkyrie was up to while the Infinity War was raging: she switched careers from alien warrior to alien hunter. For visual evidence, check out the just-released first trailer for Men in Black: International, which puts Thor: Ragnarok scene stealer Tessa Thompson front and center in a revival of the franchise that used to be synonymous with Will Smith. She’s joined by Thor himself, Chris Hemsworth, who plays the more experienced agent to her novice. Based on the trailer, they may be wearing different costumes, but the duo’s dynamite comic dynamic remains the same. (Watch the trailer above.)
While this new MiB movie takes the series to new locations, it doesn’t replace what’s come before. Emma Thompson’s Agent O, for example, is still running things, while Smith and Tommy Lee Jones make stealth cameos in the trailer’s opening moments. But director F. Gary Gray also indicates that this adventure is going to have a change in scope to complement its change in geography. The action looks bigger, the weapons look bigger and the stakes for our new agents M (Thompson) and H (Hemsworth) are definitely bigger.
International also brings Liam Neeson and Kumail Nanjiani into the wider MiB universe as the boss of the United Kingdom-based office and an alien assistant respectively. But even with all that added star power, the trailer makes it clear that this is first and foremost Thompson’s movie. And we have no doubt she’ll slay it, even if she’s not swinging Valkyrie’s sword.
Men in Black International opens in theaters on June 14. Check out the poster:
