Chrissy Metz Defends ‘This is Us’ Co-Star’s Fat Suit

This is Us star Chrissy Metz stopped by Watch What Happens Live, where she got the chance to defend the fact that her co-star, Chris Sullivan, wears a fat suit to play his character, Toby. A fan wrote WWHL and said she thought that it was ridiculous. Metz said she appreciates the opinion, but disagreed.

“We tested a lot of gentlemen who were bigger, and I get it, people think the authenticity is kind of ruined by that, but Chris has been heavier, and I think he does understand the plight of being overweight. And also, he was the best man for the job. And people wear prosthetics all the time. This happens to be weight as opposed to a nose or a chin,” Metz said.

Besides both starring on This Is Us, Metz has something else in common with Sullivan. In American Horror Story: Freak Show, she too wore a fat suit.

“I wore a very large couch, basically, prosthetic suit. It’s just kind of the name of the game,” said Metz.
