The fact that Christina Hall and Tarek and Heather Rae El Moussa unceremoniously dumped Josh Hall from their upcoming HGTV show, The Flip Off, might have been the biggest hint that the Halls’ divorce wasn’t an amicable split. Now, court documents are revealing that a major financial fight is ahead.

According to a filing by Christina obtained by Entertainment Tonight, Josh allegedly took money out of one of her bank accounts that was reserved for a rental property. “Josh was able to divert over $35,000 of my separate property rental income into his account,” she claimed. “I am asking for Josh to account for the funds taken and return them to me as those funds are specifically used to pay any loans, obligations, property taxes, insurance, and maintenance for these rental properties.”

According to the outlet, Josh “denies any wrongdoing,” but he’s going to have to explain how the money ended up in his account. He reportedly texted Christina’s Franklin, Tennessee property manager with an unusual request: “Hi. For June payments, can we please get it sent to a different account when it’s time? Thank you.” Christina’s employee sent the $35,000 to Josh, “believing I had authorized the change of accounts and asked for account details and Josh provided his own Wells Fargo Bank account,” according to Christina. So, of course, the HGTV personality wants her money back and is asking to have sole access to their Newport Beach, California residence.

While both of their names are on the deed, Christina pointed out in the court documents that a majority of the funds used in the purchase came from selling her prior Dana Point home. With no prenuptial agreement in place, it’s going to be a contentious battle since California is a community property state. “In California, which follows community property laws, absent a prenup, marital assets are generally divided equally,”  Aliette H. Carolan, Esq., family law attorney and founder of The Quick Divorce, told SheKnows.

It seems that finances were an issue for quite some time in their relationship. “Christina works very hard and is successful,” an Us Weekly insider shared. “She felt like Josh was not contributing enough to the household. She’s the monied spouse, she was more successful.” The estranged duo will have to navigate the court system to sort out the finances, but it sounds like both of them are ready for battle.
