Christina Hendricks, Emily Watson to star in The Angel Makers
Mad Men fan favorite Christina Hendricks and two-time Oscar nominee Emily Watson (Hilary and Jackie, Breaking the Waves) will star in the World War I drama The Angel Makers, directed by Jon Amiel. The film, which is scheduled to start shooting in January, centers on the women of a farming community in northern England left to their own devices when the men head off to battle. Luke Wilson, Chad Michael Murray, and Francesca Eastwood are headlining the western thriller Outlaws and Angels. Writer-director J.T. Mollner just completed principal photography on the film about a bank robber (Murray) hiding out in a frontier family’s home while being stalked by a bounty hunter (Wilson). The cast also includes Teri Polo, Ben Browder, Madisen Beaty, Keith Loneker, Nathan Russell, and Frances Fisher. [The Hollywood Reporter]
Betty Gabriel, Edwin Hodge, Kyle Secor, J.J. Soria, Mykelti Williamson, and Elizabeth Mitchell have entered the scrum of The Purge 3, the next installment of the dystopian franchise about a night of government-sanctioned lawlessness. Writer-director James DeMonaco and star Frank Grillo are reprising their duties on the Universal and Blumhouse film, set for release July 1. [Deadline]
Jack Huston (HBO’s Boardwalk Empire) and Jake Lacy (Obvious Child) have joined the cast of Their Finest Hour and a Half, a romantic comedy from An Education director Lone Scherfig. The two join Gemma Arterton and Bill Nighy in the 1940s screwball tale of a British film crew trying to make a patriotic movie to raise morale during the Blitz.
