Summer is almost officially over, which really only means one thing: Christina Ricci season is upon us. The weeks leading up to Halloween are the perfect time to binge her filmography, which includes spooky favorites like The Addams Family, Casper, Sleepy Hollow, Wednesday, Yellowjackets, and more. This is also a time for leaning into the supernatural, if you’re into that sort of thing, and Ricci’s new collaboration with West Elm has everything you need to do so.

Available now, the collection includes Ricci’s Cat Full of Spiders tarot deck, a smudge stick, and a black marble bowl, tray, and candle. For Ricci, pulling tarot cards and burning sage are comforting at-home rituals. “I was introduced to tarot as a teenager and thought it was so fun,” she tells AD. “When I was younger, I really was all in on its mystical components and the idea that it was sort of this magic and predicting the future.”

As she’s grown older, she sees these pastimes as more symbolic, but no less important. “All the cards represent different things and have different meanings,” she explains of the deck. “Depending on the question you ask [before you pull a card] and your own self knowledge, the card will have a different meaning and tell every person a different thing. It’s like putting your subconscious and all of your life experience to work. The idea of self reflection—albeit maybe not completely conscious self reflection in tarot’s case—can help you navigate the future, predict the future.”

Ricci, who recently sold a Los Angeles home she renovated with the help of Flipping Out star Jeff Lewis and who previously owned Lloyd Wright’s Mayan Revival style Novarro House, tells us she just moved into a new pad and has not yet had a chance to set up an area for her mystical items, but she plans to create one soon. “I think that just the act of going through your home and deciding to cleanse it does something to you emotionally and mentally,” she says. “I’ll probably make a little alcove or something for myself in the deck.”

Below, Ricci shares more about the home she shares with her husband, Mark Hampton, and two children.

AD: What city do you live in?

Describe the style of your home in one sentence.

Our home is modern, I guess California modern.

What is one kitchen item you use every single day?

This small, small skillet. A little baby-size skillet.

What is your favorite gadget or appliance?

We have this little Miele handy vac that gets all the cat hair off the couches. I use that every day—probably twice a day.

What is your bedtime ritual?

It’s not really much of a ritual. I just wash my face, do all my skin care, change, oversee my son’s bath, put him to bed, and then I usually read in bed before going to sleep.

What is your ideal bedding setup?

My bedding is from West Elm. Also, I like to sleep on a standard pillow underneath a king-size pillow, so that I sleep almost sitting up. As I get older, it’s just the most comfortable thing.

Which room in your house is your favorite and why?

We have a really nice primary bedroom in this house. We just moved. I’ve always wanted a fireplace in my bedroom and now we have one. We also have a really pretty view.

Describe one item in your home that you brought back from a trip.

I have brought a lot of things back home. You’re gonna think this is very silly, but I got a porcelain dachshund with flowers painted on it in Amsterdam and I really, really love it. I also have a little bronze deer that I got on a trip to Nova Scotia because it looks exactly like my little dog Karen, [who] just passed away this year. I really treasure that one because it looks like my baby dog.

What object in your house has extra sentimental value?

There are a few pieces in my home that are antiques that I got in my 20s when I had my first home ever. One of them is this coffee table that was from an estate sale. It’s from the ’60s and it’s a big slab of Argentinian marble. It’s a sort of rainbow dreamy marble. It is very simple. It’s whimsical but also a little stark. I absolutely love it and have dragged it along with me for the past 25 years.

What is the oldest thing in your house?

I have my lunch box from when I was three years old. It’s a Mickey Mouse and Friends tin lunch box that still has the tag on it from my bus route. I was allowed to take the bus to preschool at that age because I’m the youngest of four and all of my older siblings were on the bus, and we lived in a small town. It has a little sticker on it and it sits in the bar as a decoration.

What is the newest thing in your house?

We bought my son a dartboard last week and it’s up in his room.

Do you have a room or area that serves an unusual purpose?

We have a section under our stairs where the cats lay. Their bed and their automatic litter box [are there].

What would you change about your home if you could only choose one thing?

There’s way too much sunlight and giant glass windows. And we have like three decks and everything’s painted white. I personally hate the sun. I’m not sure what I was thinking when I bought this house, but we’re gonna have to come up with some fun shade solutions.
