Christina Ricci files for divorce after being granted an emergency protective order against husband James Heerdegen
Christina Ricci has filed for divorce from her husband, James Heerdegen, amid a domestic dispute involving the police, Yahoo Entertainment can confirm.
News of the divorce came Thursday, first reported by TMZ. According to the outlet, Ricci filed in L.A. County Superior Court first thing that morning and cited “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for ending the nearly seven-year marriage. She also asked for sole legal and physical custody of their 5-year-old son, Freddie.
Ricci is represented by attorney Samantha Spector in the divorce. A firm spokesperson told Yahoo Entertainment there is no comment at this time.
The filing follows news that Ricci — who starred in The Addams Family, Mermaids, Casper and Sleepy Hollow to name a few — had been granted an emergency protective order against Heerdegen, whom she married in 2013, after a domestic incident at their Woodland Hills, Calif., home.
“On 06/25/20, around 9:20 a.m., officers responded to a domestic battery radio call,” a Los Angeles Police Department public information officer said in a statement to Us Weekly. “A report was completed.” No one was arrested.
The Blast reported that a verbal argument turned violent — and, according to law enforcement sources, Heerdegen spit on the actress.
Yahoo Entertainment has also reached out to the LAPD for comment, as well as Ricci’s publicist, and will update this story with any responses.
Ricci met Heerdegen in 2011 on the set of ABC’s Pan Am, which ran for just one season. He was a dolly grip on the much-hyped show’s crew, a job he’s also done on movies such as Birdman and Captain Phillips, as well as on TV’s Elementary.
Yahoo Entertainment was unable to find a spokesperson for Heerdegen. He hasn’t shared any statements on his social media at this point.
Ricci, who made her film debut at 10, also memorably played the infamous Lizzie Borden in Lifetime’s The Lizzie Borden Chronicles miniseries in 2015. She’s expected to star alongside Juliette Lewis and Melanie Lynskey in a new TV drama called Yellowjackets later this year.
