Cillian Murphy to star in ‘Peaky Blinders’ movie coming to Netflix
Tommy Shelby is back!
Netflix announced a “Peaky Blinders” movie is in the works nearly two years after the British period crime drama series ended.
To add to the news, Oscar-winning actor Cillian Murphy will reprise his role as the gangster.
The streamer announced the news in a post to X, formerly Twitter, on Tuesday afternoon.
“It seems like Tommy Shelby wasn’t finished with me…It is very gratifying to be re-collaborating with Steven Knight and Tom Harper on the film version of Peaky Blinders. This is one for the fans,” the post read alongside a photo of the script, which is a statement from Murphy.
Tom Harper is set to direct the new movie as he directed several episodes of the show.
“When I first directed ‘Peaky Blinders’ over 10 years ago, we didn’t know what the series would become, but we did know that there was something in the alchemy of the cast and the writing that felt explosive,” Harper told Deadline. “‘Peaky’ has always been a story about family — and so it’s incredibly exciting to be reuniting with Steve and Cillian to bring the movie to audiences across the world on Netflix.”
The BBC series ran for six seasons from 2013 to 2022.
Plot details and further casting news of the upcoming film remain under wraps.
