Clancy Brown will visit Mansfield for 30th anniversary of 'The Shawshank Redemption'

Clancy Brown is one of several Hollywood stars who will be in Mansfield this summer.

Brown and other celebrities who filmed The Shawshank Redemption throughout North Central Ohio will return in August for the film's 30th anniversary, according to Dan Smith, associate director of the Ohio State Reformatory.

"This is huge," Smith said.

Brown, who portrayed Capt. Byron Hadley in "The Shawshank Redemption," will visit Mansfield for the first time since the movie was filmed in 1993.

Others who plan to return to Mansfield are Frank Darabont (the film's director), Bob Gunton (Warden Samuel Norton), William Sadler (Heywood), Gil Bellows (Tommy Williams) and Mark Rolston (Bogs Diamond).

Celebrities will return to Shawshank on Aug. 10

"The Shawshank Redemption" 30th anniversary celebration will take place Aug. 9-11 at the movie's 15 filming sites throughout North Central Ohio, known as the The Shawshank Trail.

The Ohio State Reformatory, the iconic prison recognized worldwide as Shawshank State Penitentiary, will host the celebrities at 4:30 p.m. on Aug. 10 for a program entitled "Return to Shawshank: An Intimate Evening with the Stars."

Ben Mankiewicz, Turner Classic Movies host, will moderate a discussion panel with the "Shawshank" stars.

A limited supply of tickets are available at shawshanktrail.com. The event will also be streamed live.

Mansfield is home to the best movie ever made

Stephen King brought the story to life sometime in the 1970s with his novella "Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption," which was published in 1982 along with three others in the book "Different Seasons."

"The Shawshank Redemption" was filmed over the summer of 1993, then released in September 1994.

The Internet Movie Database still lists The Shawshank Redemption as the best movie ever made, ahead of "The Godfather" and "The Dark Knight."

Director Frank Darabont and nearly a dozen other cast and crew returned to Mansfield in the summer of 2019 to celebrate their picture's 25th birthday.
