Clay Walker to perform for expo center fundraiser
The Lubbock County Junior Livestock Friends and Family are hosting their Second Annual Fundraiser with a concert by country star Clay Walker at 7:30 p.m. on May 20 in the Lubbock Memorial Civic Center.
The Exponanza event was created to continually support the Lubbock County Expo Center's financial needs. This facility will be used to support multiple events for the high plains.
Walker, 53, has been making hit music for several decades. Some of his best-known hits are "What's It to You", "This Woman and This Man", "She Won't Be Lonely Long", "If I Could Make a Living", “Dreaming With My Eyes Open”, "Live Until I Die" and more. He recently released a new album, "Texas to Tennessee."
Many of the country fans behind the almost 20 million on-demand and video streams for his latest single “Need A Bar Sometimes” are quite possibly unaware of Walker’s history, according to his website, claywalker.com
Discovered in a Beaumont bar by producer and head of Giant Records James Stroud, Walker was in his early 20s when he started rattling off a string of smash hits. His self-titled debut album rocketed to platinum status, the first of four to cross the million-sold mark. He racked up more than 30 charted singles and 11 No. 1s.
In his newest album, there more to the duality of Walker's debut Show Dog Nashville album "Texas To Tennessee" than the title. The realities of place are as central as this comeback album's name implies: Nashville busily working toward the next fresh hit; Texas moving at its inimitable and familiar pace, reads his website.
There's a mix of songwriting and production approaches, evident and more nuanced relationships between the songs themselves, and the overarching presence of a naturally gifted vocalist who relentlessly pursues his own development as a singer. But don't mistake those dualities for dichotomy – and certainly not polarity. In a storied career dotted with smash singles, platinum albums and countless honors and acclaim, maybe the connection between country's timeless themes and music-of-the-moment timeliness has been there all along.
Tickets to the Lubbock fundraiser show range from $70 to $150 (plus taxes and fees), depending on seating.
A college student discount on balcony seating is available in person at the box office only. You must show a valid college ID to qualify.
