This clip from 'A Dog's Way Home' will give you all the feels (exclusive)
Like the song goes, who says you can’t go home? That’s true for both humans AND dogs, as evidenced in the new movie A Dog’s Way Home. Opening in theaters today, this family-friendly (and animal-friendly) follow-up to 2017’s A Dog’s Purpose follows one stalwart canine’s journey across 400-miles of rugged terrain back to her forever family, Terri (Ashley Judd) and Lucas (Jonah Hauer-King). In this exclusive clip from the film, mother and son help Bella (voiced by Bryce Dallas Howard) prepare for her incredible journey by giving her a crash course in finding her way home … from an admittedly shorter distance. (Watch the clip above.)
Like A Dog’s Purpose, A Dog’s Way Home is based on a book by bestselling author and serious dog lover W. Bruce Cameron. The filmmakers decided early on to cast a rescue dog as their star, and found the perfect leading lady in Shelby, a pit bull mix whose early life was spent in a Tennessee garbage dump followed by an animal shelter. Speaking with USA Today, Cameron praised Shelby’s skills, “It was obvious after just an hour of working with her, this was going to be the dog.”
For this specific scene, Bella follows Lucas’s command to “Go home,” racing down the street and around the corner until she arrives at her familiar front porch and puts her head on the wicker chair, as instructed. Howard provides lively running commentary while her canine counterpart is in mid-run: “This is the best game ever!” For dog lovers, seeing your pooch come home on his or her own is one of the best feelings ever.
