CMA Awards Recap: Beyoncé and Country Legends Dominate the Show
The 50th annual CMA Awards was a massive celebration of country music, its history, and a little bit of its future. The show kicked off with musical medley that included country legends Buck Owens, Dwight Yoakam, Randy Travis, and many more. Throughout the night, other country superstars like Alan Jackson, George Strait, Garth Brooks, Trisha Yearwood, and the good ol’ Oak Ridge Boys sang some of country’s classic hits.
But the performance that people will be talking about is Beyoncé and the Dixie Chicks hitting the stage together for a country-fied version of “Daddy Lessons.” The ladies shook the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tenn., receiving a standing ovation at the end of the song.
At the end of the night, Dolly Parton was honored with the Willie Nelson Lifetime Achievement Award and a musical tribute that included Carrie Underwood, Jennifer Nettles, Kacey Musgraves, Martina McBride and Reba McEntire. And, of course, Dolly accepted her award in the most Dolly way possible by saying, “Wow, what a tribute, this is so touching. I woulda cried but I didn’t wanna mess up my eyelashes.”
