CMA Awards viewership drops

Country music fest The CMA Awards dropped in the ratings from last year. Are we still accepting Hurricane Sandy power-loss explanations for viewership declines? Sure, okay, but CBS improved last night and ratings haven’t been abnormally low in general during the past few evenings.

The 46th Annual CMA Awards hosted by Carrie Underwood and Brad Paisley delivered 13.4 million viewers and a 3.8 rating among adults 18-49, down 21 percent from last year’s Wednesday telecast. That was still easily enough to put ABC in first place for the evening.

Fox’s live X-Factor (6.2 million, 2.3) tied its series low.

NBC aired a Voice repeat instead of letting its struggling comedy block face the CMA Awards and a live X-Factor.

CBS shrugged all this off. Big Bang Theory (15.7 million, 5.1), Two and a Half Men (12.6 million, 3.6) and Person of Interest (13.5 million, 3.0) were all within a tenth of a point of last week. And Elementary (10.5 million, 2.4), without facing Scandal, rose 9 percent.

On The CW, The Vampire Diaries (3.2 million, 1.5) went up 15 percent. But it didn’t help Beauty and the Beast (1.7 million, 0.6).
