‘Coach Prime’ Renewed For Third Season On Prime Video
Deion Sanders will return for a third season of Coach Prime on Prime Video. Amazon has renewed the sports documentary series and announced the news at its Upfront presentation on Tuesday (May 9). Deadline reports the series will continue its journey behind the scenes into the Colorado Buffaloes’ football locker room as they prepare for the 2024/25 season.
Coach Prime will also provide intimate examinations of the team throughout the regular season as Coach Sanders looks to lead his team to the College Football Playoffs. Season 2 debuted on Prime Video in December 2023 towards the end of the collegiate squad’s season. The second iteration of the show highlighted the iconic athlete through his inaugural season as head coach of the Buffaloes as he attempted to turn around the 1-11 program.
“Boulder, Colorado: Beyond the headlines and into the heart of what really happened on and off the field of the year’s hottest sports story, Coach Prime’s first year as head coach for the Buffaloes,” the season’s synopsis reads. “Coach faces his biggest coaching challenge yet taking over the 1-11 team while a skeptical national media scrutinizes his every move. Unfiltered access throughout the highs and lows.”
Much like the 2022/23 season, Deion Sanders and the Colorado Buffaloes finished the 2023/24 season in last place in the now-defunct Pac-12 conference. However, the team won three more games than the previous season, concluding their CFP campaign at 4-8.
SMAC Entertainment’s Michael Strahan, FredAnthony Smith, Constance Schwartz-Morini, Jamie Elias, and Micah Brown serve as executive producers on Coach Prime. SMAC Productions produces Prime Video’s Coach Prime.
Elsewhere, Prime Video is looking to deepen its footprint in the sports documentary game. During the Upfront presentation, the company announced that there would be four additional sports documentaries. These projects include an untitled documentary exploring the Madden NFL video game franchise, an untitled Dale Earnhardt Sr. project, an anthology series called Game 7, and a true crime documentary entitled ChiefsAholic: A Wolf in Chiefs Clothing, focused on the notorious Kansas City Chiefs fan turned bank robber, produced by Drake.
