Cola Wars: Judd Apatow to Direct Coke vs. Pepsi Movie, Steven Spielberg to Produce
Judd Apatow and Steven Spielberg have officially joined the upcoming Cola Wars film at Sony, with Apatow set to direct the project.
What do we know about Cola Wars?
The movie, which is set to follow the story of Pepsi attempting to dethrone Coca-Cola as the world’s top soda, will be directed by Apatow. Spielberg is attached to produce the film through his Amblin Entertainment banner. The movie will be written by Jason Shuman and Ben Queen, and is being described as in the early development stages according to a report from Deadline.
For Apatow, it’ll be his latest movie since 2022’s The Bubble, the Netflix comedy movie he co-wrote and directed. That project starred an ensemble cast including Karen Gillan, Vir Das, Pedro Pascal, Iris Apatow, and Fred Armisen. Apatow is best known for his writing work on several hit comedy films, including The 40-Year-Old Virgin (which he also directed), Pineapple Express, Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story, and more.
For Spielberg, the project will be another under his belt as he continues to work on a mysterious untitled UFO film. Spielberg is said to be working on that film alongside longtime collaborator and writer David Koepp, and is set to open in May 2026. Spielberg’s last feature film was 2022’s The Fabelmans, a project that was written and directed by Spielberg and told a fictionalized version of his adolescence and first years as a filmmaker.
