Steven Spielberg looks set to add another big name to his next film after Emily Blunt started talks to join the Amblin and Universal event movie.
Kingsman actor Colin Firth is in early talks to board Spielberg’s unnamed feature, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed. Universal has dated the film for a May 15, 2026 theatrical release, marking Spielberg’s first summer offering in a decade following The BFG in 2016. No plot details are available for the project, but it is described as an event film, a genre the filmmaker helped invent with features such as Jaws and Indiana Jones.
Other recent credits for Firth include the Kingsman films, Sam Mendes’ Empire of Light and 1917 and Netflix’s Operation Mincemeat. Spielberg has won three Oscars, including for best director and best picture for Schindler’s List, and for best director for Saving Private Ryan. He was last in theaters with the autobiographical The Fabelmans for Universal. Kristie Macosko Krieger will produce the new film.
Blunt earned an Oscar nomination for Nolan’s Oppenheimer, and was last in theaters leading The Fall Guy, both for Universal. Deadline was the first to report on Firth circling Spielberg’s next movie.
Firth is repped by CAA, Independent Talent in the U.K. and Prosper PR. Blunt is repped by CAA and Sloane Offer.
