Colleen Hoover dominates best sellers list with 15 books, including 'It Ends With Us'
It is arguable "Where the Crawdads Sing" is the book of the summer. Delia Owens' 2018 novel about a young girl accused of murder continues to reign at No. 1 on USA Today's Best Selling Books list for a fifth straight week, for a total of 18 weeks at no. 1 and 204 weeks on the list since its debut.
But when it comes to the author of the summer, Colleen Hoover dominates.
It is impressive to make any best sellers list. A high ranking on USA TODAY's list is especially impressive, as each title competes with every other title, regardless of genre: fiction, nonfiction, children's, cookbooks, etc. all battle it out in the literary arena. Having multiple titles on the list for multiple weeks is a tall order. Except, of course, for Hoover.
'Crawdads' author Delia Owens is wanted for questioning in a murder. Here's why.
This week's list alone includes 15 of Hoover's 22 novels and novellas:
"It Ends With Us," at No. 2
"Verity," at No. 3
"Ugly Love," at No. 4
"Reminders of Him," at No. 6
"November 9," at No. 9
"All Your Perfects," at No. 21
"Maybe Someday," at No. 23
"Confess," at No. 24
"Regretting You," at No. 60
"Hopeless," at No. 77
"Heart Bones," at No. 85
"Layla," at No. 95
"Without Merit," at No. 115
"Maybe Not," at No. 145
"Losing Hope," at No. 147

Hoover, who worked as a social worker before turning to writing full time, pens new adult and young adult romances, as well as several series. Her recent sales surge can be attributed in part to her massive popularity over the last two years on TikTok. Publishers Weekly chronicled the phenomenon when Hoover's 2016 book "It Ends With Us" started climbing the best sellers lists in 2020. While other authors have had individual titles benefit from TikTok – including Adam Silvera's "They Both Die at the End," Madeline Miller's "Song of Achilles" and Taylor Jenkin Reid's "The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo" – but the vast majority of Hoover's 22 titles have seen a marked rise in sales.
Granted, summer is a slow time in the publishing industry and fewer new titles are being released. In the coming weeks, Hoover will be competing with a wealth of highly anticipated books – as well as her own new release. Her next book, "It Starts With Us," is out Oct. 18. The "It Ends With Us" sequel tells fan favorite Atlas' side of the story.
Fall may prove to be Hoover's season as well.
