Conan O’Brien offered to play ‘a male gigolo’ on ‘The White Lotus’ Season 3: ‘I could do that’
He wants to do the work.
Conan O’Brien revealed that he approached “The White Lotus” creator Mike White and offered to play a sex worker on the Emmy winning HBO series.
The comedian and former talk show host, 61, recalled his hilarious pitch during a recent episode of his “Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend” podcast.
“Before you guys started shooting ‘The White Lotus,’ ran into none other than Mike White in a restaurant,” O’Brien told his guest, Walton Goggins, who will star in “The White Lotus” Season 3.
O’Brien continued, “We start chatting because we’ve met each other once or twice before and he’s a very funny, cool guy. I said, ‘Hey, so the next season of ‘The White Lotus,’ you’re going down to Thailand, right?’ I said, ‘If there’s a part for me, I’m available.’”
O’Brien recalled that White pointed out how the country has a lot of sex workers. “And I said, ‘I could do that.’ … I could play a part where I’m a male gigolo or something.”
Goggins laughed after hearing the anecdote, and said, “Yes, you could do that. I believe that you could do that.”
O’Brien asked the “Fallout” star, “Do you think I could play that part or do you think I actually could be a gigolo?”
Goggins replied, “Well, I think you could do both. I think you could play that part and you could be that person in real life.”
Each season of the HBO dark comedy series follows a group of various unhappy wealthy vacationers staying at a branch of the fictional “The White Lotus” resort. In both Season 1 and 2, there was a murder mystery going on in the background, but the show is primarily a social satire.
Season 1, which was set in Hawaii, starred Sydney Sweeney, Alexandra Daddario, Jake Lacy, Connie Britton, Murray Bartlett, and Jennifer Coolidge, among others.
In Season 2, which was set in Sicily, Italy, Coolidge returned, and other cast members included Michael Imperioli, Theo James, Meghann Fahy, Aubrey Plaza and Theo Woodall.
Season 3 will be set in Thailand, and will star Goggins, “Harry Potter” star Jason Issacs, Parker Posey, Carrie Coon and Patrick Schwarzenegger.
During a recent visit to “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert,” Goggins said he couldn’t reveal any details about Season 3, which is expected at an unannounced date in 2025.
“I can’t tell you about the story of the character that I’m playing because I think Mike White would literally take one of us out,” he said.
