New concert series with a purpose coming to World's Fair Park amphitheater
A new concert series is coming to the Tennessee Amphitheater at World’s Fair Park. Hosted by the organization Concerts For Our Own, the musical events will have a special purpose: supporting local charities.
“One of the things I didn’t want to do was just do a concert,” event founder Aaron Snukals said during a March 7 press event. “We've all done fundraising events where we do a great event and a great concert, but at the end of the day, there's no money for the charities. Well, this is not going to happen.”
Snukals, formerly with The Shed, Second Harvest and Big Wheel/River Breeze, founded Concerts For Our Own last year.
The new concert series will bring three musical performances to Knoxville this year and 80% of the proceeds will benefit Breast Connect, Love Kitchen and Special Spaces.
Who will be featured in the concerts, and when?
The three-concert series for 2023 will feature:
June 15: Singer-songwriter Mac McAnally, who has written for and played with Jimmy Buffett and Kenny Chesney, as well as performing on his own.
Aug. 10: The Sweet Caroline Tour featuring Jay White, paying homage to Neil Diamond by performing his hits.
Oct. 12: Here Come The Mummies, a Nashville-based funk rock band made up of anonymous musicians disguised as mummies.
All performances will be at the Tennessee Amphitheater.
What efforts will be helped by the concert series?
Funds raised by the premiere year of Concerts For Our Own will go to support:
Special Spaces, which does dream bedroom makeovers for children ages 2-19 who have cancer.
The Love Kitchen, which provides meals, clothing and emergency food packages to homebound, homeless and unemployed people in Knoxville.
Breast Connect, a community of breast cancer survivors providing resources for others impacted by breast cancer.
“When Mr. Snukals approached me with his idea, I loved it and it immediately became apparent to me he had the experience to make it happen,” Love Kitchen Executive Director Martin Riggins said. “I, and everyone else, can't wait to see how this series will help us serve others.”
“That’s the whole thing that Aaron's all about, giving some people some entertainment, something fun to do, but also with a purpose,” Michelle Eimers of Special Spaces told Knox News.
“These are exciting, fun bands … and then the beneficiaries are nonprofits. So it's a wonderful idea,” Breast Connect President Nina Reineri added.
