Connie Britton to Star as Phony (?) Mom in Hulu Mystery Comedy Pilot
Five-time Emmy nominee Connie Britton is set to play a suspected Phony, in a coming-of-age comedy pilot for Hulu.
The prospective mystery series follows Sonny, a teenager who wakes up in the hospital after a car accident to discover that his mom — his only parent, and his best friend — appears to have been replaced by an impostor.

Britton will play said “mom,” Ellen, who is also the principal at Sonny’s high school.
Nick Paley (Marcel the Shell with Shoes On, Broad City), an Annie Award winner and two-time Emmy nominee, wrote and will direct the pilot, and serve as an executive producer alongside Britton, Charlie Alderman, Drew Goddard and Sarah Esberg.

Since wrapping her five-season run as Friday Night Lights‘ Tami Taylor, Britton has headlined ABC’s Nashville, Season 1 of FX’s American Horror Story and Season 1 of Netflix’s Dirty John. She has also had roles on SMILF and Season 1 of 9-1-1, and was part of The White Lotus‘ inaugural ensemble cast.
Her many TV credits also include (but are far from limited to!) Spin City, The West Wing, 24 and Dear Edward.
Britton has been Emmy-nominated a total of five times, for FNL (twice), AHS, Nashville and White Lotus.
