Conservative commentator Kevin Williamson is in the hot seat again after an appearance on ‘Morning Joe’
Conservative commentator and author Kevin Williamson is the topic of a heated Twitter conversation — again — after making an appearance on the MSNBC show, Morning Joe.
Williamson, who was fired from The Atlantic, earlier this year, over his views on abortion, stopped by the chat show Friday to discuss his new book, “The Smallest Minority: Independent Thinking in the Age of Mob Politics.” During his interview, he didn’t mention the word “abortion,” but that didn’t stop Twitter from coming after him.
Oh good.... @Morning_Joe has Kevin Williamson, of “let’s hang women who’ve had abortions” fame on to be self pitying

Another commenter chimed in with:
Williamson came under fire last year after controversial tweets he posted in 2014, in which he stated women who have had abortions should be hanged, resurfaced. Things quickly began to unravel when liberal group Media Matters for America uncovered audio of Williamson expressing his beliefs on abortion in a 2014 National Review podcast.
He was subsequently terminated from The Atlantic, with editor-in-chief Jeffrey Goldberg emailing the following message to the staff:
“Kevin is a gifted writer, and he has been nothing but professional in all of our interactions. But I have come to the conclusion that The Atlantic is not the best fit for his talents, and so we are parting ways. The language he used in this podcast —and in my conversations with him in recent days — made it clear that the original tweet did, in fact, represent his carefully considered views.”
Williamson and his defenders argued that his career should not be judged on tweets.
On Friday’s episode of Morning Joe, the conservative writer didn’t mention his stance on abortion but did bring up the power of social media: “People get up and go to social media to make sure they’re told by someone that they’re hating the right people.”
And some people agree. One Twitter commenter supported Williamson:
It's really precious how all these outrage addicts bitching on Twitter about Kevin Williamson this morning are simply just proving his point.
