Contestant Makes ‘American Ninja’ Finals After Trying for Years

Brett Sims has dreamed of being an American Ninja Warrior since the first season in 2009. Unfortunately, fate had been cruel to the aspiring ninja from South Carolina: He had failed every attempt he made.

Sims changed hairstyles, training methods, and outfits, but nothing seemed to help him get over the hump — or obstacles. This year, however, Sims had a new strategy: He married a ninja. His new wife is Grace Jones-Sims, who is a well-known American Ninja Warrior. Sims said, “This is definitely a ninja love story. We met in a ninja gym, and our common interest is, of course, Ninja Warrior.”

With his ninja wife rooting him on, Sims was one of only four competitors to complete the Atlanta Finals and earn a trip to Las Vegas for the national finals.

American Ninja Warrior airs Mondays at 8 p.m. on NBC.
