Cory Booker defends Rosario Dawson relationship, hopes it 'will last forever'
Cory Booker is responding to cynics who claim his relationship with Rosario Dawson is fake. The 2020 Democratic presidential hopeful opened up to Good Day New York about his romance with the actress, saying he hopes it "will last forever."
"I'm in love," Booker smiled. "It's a great nurturing and empowering relationship, I'm blessed to be dating her."
The New Jersey senator brushed off speculation their relationship was formed out of political convenience.
"She and I are not trying to put this through a political lens," he explained. "We’re just two people in love trying to build a great relationship every single day because I’ll tell you what — in my best case scenario, I get elected to president, I serve two terms. That’s just 10 years, nine years of my life. What I’m trying to create with Rosario is something that will last forever."
Booker was asked if everything goes according to plan, whether a Rose Garden wedding could be in their future.
"Let's just put it this way, Rosario's making me dream even bigger dreams that have nothing to do with my professional life, but to do with what is really about being happy," he replied.
Dawson confirmed their romance in March after months of speculation. The Jane the Virgin actress and Booker met at a fundraiser last year for former president of the NAACP, Ben Jealous.
“I was trying to help him out, but she didn’t give me the time of day,” Booker said at his CNN Town Hall a few weeks ago. “So we met again, and I had one of those really awkward experiences. I’m a United States senator, and I had to get up the courage to walk up to her and ask her for her phone number. And this doesn’t make me nervous, but that made me nervous.”
Dawson eventually handed over her number.
“She is an incredible girlfriend,” Booker said. “I’m very lucky to be in a relationship with someone who is just so incredibly special, but more importantly has taught me so much in a very short period of time.”
