A cosmic cornfield immersive light and sound experience is coming to Summerfest

Something we didn't have on our 2024 Bingo cards: A cosmic cornfield coming to Summerfest.

"Yield" — developed by Milwaukee's own FuzzPop Workshop — is a new immersive experience featuring a glowing maze of light, sound and sculpture, according to a Thursday news release from Summerfest.

Here's what to know about the new large-scale artwork that will be a part of this year's Big Gig:

What is 'Yield'?

"Yield" is an immersive light and sound experience that's 36 feet in diameter and stands 12 feet tall, according to the release. It's made up of 192 stalks of corn; 2,112 leaves; 75,000 LED pixels; 6,336 rivets; and more than 15,000 feet of cable.

It will use "individually addressable" LEDs and a multichannel sound system to move light and sound through the space, creating a "dreamlike" experience.

"Yield draws on childhood memories of getting lost in fields of corn and turns that familiar memory into an otherworldly experience," the release said.

It also explores a larger story of ecological change and technological advancement.

Where will 'Yield' be located?

"Yield" will be located near the South Gate of Henry Maier Festival Park, 200 N. Harbor Dr., Milwaukee.

How can I experience 'Yield'?

People can experience "Yield" during the Big Gig's three weekends, which are June 20-22, June 27-29 and July 4-6.

Does it cost anything to see 'Yield'?

"Yield" is accessible with Summerfest admission, which can be purchased here.
