Country Star Loretta Lynn's Granddaughter Lynn Massey Dead After 'Long Health Battle'
Lynn Massey, the eldest grandchild of the late country music icon Loretta Lynn, has died.
Lynn’s official social media accounts announced the sad news on Thursday, Aug. 22.
“Betty Sue’s daughter Lynn Massey, Loretta’s first grandchild, passed away this week after a long and difficult health battle,” the update posted on Instagram and Facebook read. “Our family is so grateful for the prayers and love continually shown to us.”
The announcement from Lynn’s team featured a photo of Massey standing inside in front of shelves on which photos of her grandmother were proudly displayed. In the undated photo, Massey wore a colorful apron over a blue short-sleeved plaid T-shirt, her hands seemingly clasped behind her back as she flashed a big smile at the camera.
With the exception of mentioning Massey’s “long health battle,” the post did not include specific information regarding the exact cause of her death or how long she had struggled with health issues. Details regarding exactly where and when Massey was at the time of her death were not immediately released to the public.
Massey was the daughter of Betty Sue, one of Lynn’s six children. Massey was 64 at the time of her death, Al.com reported. Betty Sue was the same age when she passed away in July 2013 after a struggle with emphysema, according to The Associated Press.
The news of Massey’s death prompted an outpouring of condolences on social media from fans of the country music star. Fellow singer Jewel was among the many who responded to the announcement on Instagram, writing, “Sending so much love….”
Massey passed away just under two years after the “Coal Miner’s Daughter” singer died at age 90. Lynn “passed away peacefully” while asleep at her ranch in Tennessee on Oct., 4, 2022, her family said in a statement released at the time.
