Craig Ferguson Made ‘Today’ Producers So Nervous They Gave Him a Five-Second Delay

TV’s Craig Ferguson guest-hosted the fourth hour of the Today show with Kathie Lee Gifford, and his mouth was on the verge of getting him in trouble. Ferguson opened the show, saying, “May I complain that I found out that there’s a five-second delay on the first half of the show because I’m here? Am I not to be trusted?”

That delay would allow the show to omit any expletive the former late-night host might utter while on the show.

He must have made the show’s producers nervous, as Gifford explained, “Well, you know, it was based on your own performance, so to speak, in our little production meeting this morning.”

Ferguson quickly went to work trying to make the censors nervous, pitching that he and Gifford should make “radio porn” on the show.

He even pretended to mouth fake swear words to push the censor’s limits. In the end, he didn’t cross any swearing lines, but viewers did get to see Gifford squirm.

Today airs weekdays from 7 to 11 a.m. on NBC.
