'Criminal Minds' Star Paget Brewster Met Her Husband Thanks to Matthew Gray Gubler

Fans know Paget Brewster portrays SSA-turned-BAU section chief Emily Prentiss on the hit series Criminal Minds. While the show definitely changed her life professionally, she probably didn't expect one of her co-stars to introduce her to her now-husband of almost 10 years, musician Steve Damstra.

The beginning of Paget and Steve's love story can be attributed to none other than Matthew Gray Gubler, who starred alongside Paget as Dr. Spencer Reid on Criminal Minds for 15 seasons. According to an interview he did with Glamour in December 2015, he revealed he and Paget had a great bond while working on the series. As a result, he decided to introduce her to Steve, who is his friend and a member of the bands Folded Light and Whirlwind Heat.

"Paget [Brewster] is my best friend," he said at the time. "I married her and introduced her to her husband."

Although it's unclear exactly when Paget and Steve's relationship began, the couple did publicly announce a huge milestone for them. In March 2013, the Grandfathered actress revealed that she was engaged, posting the news on X (formerly Twitter). What's more, she used the moment to share her thoughts about getting married in her mid-40s.

"[The ring is] jade. And he's the best." she wrote at the time. "Wait for the best, ladies, wait until you're 44 if that's what it takes!"

While Paget frequently documented the wedding process on social media (including tweets about the stress behind planning for the big day), she also sure to include another very special person in her ceremony.

When she and Steve wed in October 2014, she enlisted Matthew to be their officiant. What's more, when photos of the nuptials were released in December of that year, Matthew documented the experience by posting a photo with the happy couple.

"Had the unique pleasure of getting to officiate the marriage of two of my best friends and now I have minister fever," he wrote at the time on Instagram.

Although Paget and Steve's relationship normally stays under wraps, the Friends alum does share some moments from their marriage online. Paget loves to call out her husband as well. Steve has also shown rare instances with his wife on Instagram. And sometimes work and romance collide, as Paget revealed in March 2020 she made a song (titled "Drove to the Ocean") with her husband.

As for how else Paget and Steve keep the spark alive, the actress is pretty private about their romance. But she did note on X how marriage is a choice, and she was happy to wait for true love until she found her husband.

"Ladies, I got married at 45," she said in January 2017. "Wait for the person who thrills you, adores you, gets you and calls you on your bulls---. It's worth the wait."
