Meanwhile, not only does this boxed set come with 40 digitally-restored films, but it also comes with special features, audio commentaries and essays presented in a new deluxe and clothbound slipcase.

The titles selected for CC40 were the most frequently chosen from the company’s Closet Picks video series on YouTube. Over the years, many filmmakers, actors, writers and influential movie lovers — including Lee Daniels, Andrew Garfield, Paul Giamatti, St. Vincent, Molly Ringwald, Bill Hader, Winona Ryder and many others — visited the Criterion Collection’s offices in New York City to select their favorite films from their gigantic archive, a.k.a. the Criterion Closet.
