Cynthia Erivo has been leaning in heavily to her role as Elphaba for “Wicked: Part One.” After Zendaya notably brought method dressing back into consistent practice on red carpets for the “Spiderman” films as well as for “Dune” and “Challengers,” Margot Robbie cemented it as something to discuss through “Barbie.”

Now, Erivo has become one of a group of celebrities relying on it. For the “Wicked” press tour this has meant a series of green and black looks, themed around her character. For the latest, she chose to recreate the iconic imagery of Elphaba melting. To do so she wore a custom dress and jacket form Thom Browne with a pair of patent leather platfomr brogue shoes from the brand.

Erivo appears to have worn the shoes before. In May, she attended the 2024 Met Gala with the theme of “The Garden of Time.” She appeared to already be possibly nodding to the coming “Wicked” tour, outfitted in a jacket and skirt featuring pale pink petals — Ariana Grande’s character is often associated with pale pink.

For that look, Erivo paired it with a pair of Thom Browne black patent leather shoes. The shoes include brogue detailing, which is common of Browne’s footwear designs. It also includes a circular stilt-like platform beneath the front of the foot.

The shoe also has a sculpted heel and is cut low on the ankle. The shoe that Erivo wore in Mexico mimics this exact design.

The style is not available at retail. But at the Met Gala, Eboni Nichols wore the same shoe. Nichols is the partner of Queen Latifah.

Erivo’s “Wicked” look for Mexico City was styled by Jason Bolden. It included a strapless black silk chiffon corset dress. The dress included multicolored crystal detailing as well as exaggerated hips. The dress was paired with a cropped jacket featuring a black hood. Emerging from the shoulders of the jacket are two pairs of witch hands with black and emerald crystal nails. They call to mind the silhouette of Elphaba’s hands as she melts.
