Cynthia Erivo Wears Black Patent Leather Thom Browne Platform Shoes for Met Gala 2024 Red Carpet
More from Footwear News
Cynthia Erivo opted for a sleek appearance at the 2024 Met Gala. The actress, who will play Elphaba in the upcoming “Wicked” film, wore a pair of black patent leather Thom Browne platform booties for the Met Gala’s red carpet.
She joins a group of other celebs in platform options from Browne: Reece Feldman wore platform penny loafers; Alton Mason wore platform combat boots; and Queen Latifah’s partner Eboni Nichols also wore a patent leather platform shoe for the red carpet.
Erivo’s look was a two piece including a cropped black blazer with corset lacing in the back, tie and button down shirt as a top and trailing black skirt as a bottom. The entire look was covered in pink flower petals.
About the Shoe
For footwear, Erivo and her longtime stylist Jason Bolden selected a black patent leather bootie. The lace-up shoe with a rounded toe features brogue detailing, as do many of Browne’s shoe designs.
While it sports a single sole, the back of the shoe includes a tall, curved heel that is taller than the pitch of the shoe allows. To make up the difference, the shoe includes a circular stilt-like platform beneath the ball of the toe. The company’s signature grosgrain red, white and blue ribbon is on the pull tab.
The style is not available at retail, though the current collection that is available does feature the same signature attributes: brogue perforation, curved heels and the ribbon. One of the closest styles is likely the Thom Browne Calf Leather Curved Heel Longwing Brogue. It does not feature a platform and has a pointed toe. The shoe is available for $1,250.
The Met Gala raises funds for the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City and celebrates the Costume Institute’s annual exhibits. This year’s theme, “The Garden of Time,” celebrates the “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion” exhibit. The 2024 event is notably co-chaired by Zendaya, Jennifer Lopez, Bad Bunny, Chris Hemsworth and Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour.
