With less than a month until the 2024 presidential election, Jon Stewart has one movie on his mind.

On Monday’s episode of The Daily Show, the comedian called out Donald Trump‘s hypocrisy for standing on a platform of free speech while attempting to have the upcoming film The Apprentice shut down, calling it election interference.

“Oh, come on! That’s election interference?” said Stewart. “Maybe it’s election interference, but you gotta be a little bit flattered that you’re being played by Sebastian Stan.”

As a photo of Stan displayed next to him, Stewart looked smitten by the MCU star. “Oh, Sebastian. If you’re the Winter Soldier, why is it suddenly so warm in here?” he said.

“I look like Sebastian Stan if you were to put his face through one of those filters on TikTok that show your appearance right before you die,” joked Stewart. “Yeah, you can applaud that… I know what I look like.”

Written by Gabe Sherman, The Apprentice charts a young Trump’s ascent to power through a Faustian deal with the influential right-wing lawyer and political fixer Roy Cohn (Jeremy Strong). The movie also stars Martin Donovan as Fred Trump Sr. and Maria Bakalova as Ivana Trump.

After the film had its world premiere at Cannes Film Festival in May, where it received an 11-minute ovation, Trump’s campaign issued a cease-and-desist attempting to stop the film from screening in the US amid the 2024 presidential election. But the letter appears to have been fruitless as the title went on to screen at Telluride Film Festival in August.
