Dakota Johnson & Chris Martin Have Been 'Distant' for a While, a Body Language Expert Says
In the past few weeks, news about Dakota Johnson and Chris Martin‘s relationship has been all over the place. From sources speculating on a possible split between them after seven years together, to Johnson showing off her engagement ring in a recent rare outing, it seems fans (and the media) might still be unsure of what’s actually going on.
But, as Johnson and Martin’s reps do their best to quiet down the situation, body language expert Judi James gave a not-so-positive review of an outing of theirs back in February. Talking to Daily Mail, James looked at some photos and videos from the couple’s last trip together in sunny Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.

According to James, the pair didn’t seem to be on the best of terms. “Dakota’s body language makes her look distant in some of these poses, while Chris seems to throw her some looks of concern,” James detailed.
“Their tactile behavior doesn’t look easy-going and natural,” James continued.
In one photographed moment, Martin attempts to hold Johnson’s hand but the Daddio star keeps her arms and hands behind her instead. “And when their hands fall together they seem to miss the moment for a clasp,” James continued.
Later on, the two did hold hands, but that wasn’t too loving either. “When Chris does encase her hand in what looks like a firm, affectionate grip he pulls her hand towards his torso but she seems to maintain the distance between them, stretching her arm out rather than moving closer,” James observed.
Hand-holding aside, it seems Johnson and Martin’s disconnection might’ve indicated something deeper. “Dakota’s gaze looks distant in some of these photos, while Chris can be seen looking at her face with an expression of what could be a concern,” James said. Looks like there was some trouble in paradise before the split rumor mill even began.
As a reminder, reps for Johnson and Martin denied all the breakup rumors on Aug. 16. “They are happily together,” they told People. So while they might still be together, and very much engaged, perhaps their relationship has been bumpier than we expected.
